About the Item

Rare set of twelve silver plate knife-rests in the shape of different animals: two swans standing turning their backs, two monkeys pulling a rope while standing by the tail, two cocks fighting each other, two hens clashing over a snail, two elephants holding by trunk and two pelicans standing by their bill, circa 1920-1930. The knife rests feature the characteristic of the Art Deco style prevalent at that time. The pieces are not marked but the model is known to have been produced and appears in the catalog of French society of silversmith of Art : Argit. This complete set is with its original box with compartments for twelve pieces. No monograms. Measures: Elephants : Base 3.62 x .91 (9.2 cm x 2.3 cm ), height 1.8 (3 cm) Swans : Base 3.54 x .79 (9 cm x 2 cm ), height 1.1 (2.8 cm) Monkeys : Base 3.15 x .91 (8 cm x 2.3 cm ), height 1.8 (3 cm) Cocks : Base 3.54 x .98 (9 cm x 2.5 cm ), height 1.26 (3.2 cm) Hens : Base 3.23 x .87 (8.2 cm x 2.2 cm ), height 1.18 (3 cm) Pelicans : Base 3.74 x .87 (9.5 cm x 2.2 cm ), height 1.1 (2.8 cm) Weight: 1340 grams.
