Rare service of six knife rests in silver metal, signed by the prestigious artist Benjamin Rabier and the silversmith Pierre Devouge. Each piece represents a fable of Jean de la Fontaine: Picture 2 : The Wolf and the Lamb (Le loup et l’agneau) Picture 3 : The Monkey and the Cat (Le singe et le chat) Picture 4 : The Tortoise and the Hare (Le lièvre et la tortue) Picture 6 : The Fox and the Crow (Le corbeau et le renard) Picture 7 : The Rat Retired From The World (Le rat qui s’est retiré du monde) Picture 8 : The Wolf and the Crane (Le loup et la cigogne) To complete this set, check out our other items, you will find another set of six pieces of the same model and same silversmith. Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695) is a French poet of great renown, mainly for his Fables which are always considered as one of the greatest masterpieces of French literature. Benjamin Rabier (1864-1939 ) was a French illustrator, comic book artist and animator. He became famous for creating the cow's design on cheese "La vache qui rit" (The Laughing Cow) and and for the comic strip character Gedeon ( Gideon the duck). He is considered one of the greatest European animal cartoonists. His work has inspired many other artists, notably Hergé and Edmond-François Calvo.
