Sterling silver Old English basting spoon by Hester Bateman, 1785, London. Perhaps the most famous female silversmith for collectors. Family Crest of a hawk over a monogram (indistinct from wear). Very nice condition with wear on monogram & crest. At this time her sons Jonathan & Peter were her partners, leaving it in 1790 to them upon retirement. This exhibits the classic simple elegance of her work. 3.10 troy oz. 11.25" x 1 15/16" x 1" h.
