Pretty and delicate pair of Victorian silver plated trumpet-shaped vases; the wavy edge is worked with light and precious fretwork, the tapered design gives these objects a young, feminine look; they were very much in fashion in England during the reign of Queen Victoria; their right size and attractive aesthetic shape allow them to be placed anywhere in the house and combined with any type of furniture. They are marked EPNS then made in silver-plated, a technique born in the mid-1800s; it was electroplating of silver obtained through a galvanic process that allowed to aesthetically elevate metals less noble than silver, such as nickel, brass, and pewter; this invention, after that of the Old Sheffield Plate of 1742, immediately presented unexpected advantages, technical, economic and social; In fact, production of decorative and everyday objects began that aesthetically resembled that of the most precious objects so far made only in sterling silver, but at a considerably lower price, therefore also available to the cultured bourgeoisie of the time. In order to avoid confusion and fraud, from 1896 all silver-plated objects had to carry the words EP (Electro Plated), EM (Electroplated Metal) or EPNS (Electro Plated Nickel Silver); English law, so precise for the marking of silver objects, did not oblige Electro Plated manufacturers to mark their products, especially those made by small craftsmen; in any case, the importance and value of a beautiful antique object are not compromised by the lack of the manufacturing mark. Made in Birmingham between 1896 and 1900. Measures: each D.cm. 14, H.cm.25. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
