A fine pair of antique George V English Britannia standard silver trencher salts; an addition to our cruets and condiments collection. These fine antique George V Britannia standard silver trencher salts have a plain circular invaginated form. The salts have a plain and unembellished hemispherical well. These English silver trencher salts are encircled with a plain applied girdle. The underside of each salt bears the retailer's mark 'Crichton Bros, 22 Old Bond Street W'. Britannia silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).
