An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique George V English novelty sterling silver thread holder made by Asprey & Co Ltd; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection.
This exceptional and rare antique George V sterling silver thread holder has been realistically modelled in the form of a Christmas cracker.
The cylindrical surface of this unusual box is embellished with a bright cut engraved scalloped oval-shaped cartouche, in addition to scalloped and pensile drop borders to either hand piece of the cracker.
This impressive antique silver thread box retains the original, hallmarked push fit cover; this comprises one of the cracker's handpieces.
The cover opens to allow access to the original, removable hallmarked silver gilt spool holder, bearing four spools of thread.
The thread holder and interior of the box bear the original gilding.
This unusual and specially commissioned box was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Asprey & Co Ltd.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the box, terminal of the cover and base of the spool holder are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.
