Antique Sterling Silver Egg Cruet Set For Four Persons

An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique George V English sterling silver egg cruet set with spoons for four persons; part of our dining silverware collection This exceptional antique sterling silver egg cruet set consists of four egg cups and associated spoons displayed on a functional original purpose-made stand with a central carrying handle. The original hallmarked egg cups have a bell shaped form onto a circular spreading foot. These antique silver egg cups are plain and unembellished, with applied moulded decoration to the upper rim of each vessel. Each egg cup is supported and displayed on the navette-shaped stand, ornamented with an impressive applied leaf decorated border to the rim and incorporating a leaf decorated handpiece to either end. The surface of the stand bears four circular receivers enabling the egg cups to stand securely in situ; these supports alternate with integrated, elevated receivers for the four egg spoons. The original antique stand of this antique cruet set features a central carrying handle with a curvilinear frame and circular handpiece. The stand is supported by four impressive paw style feet, embellished with further leaf decoration to the sockets. The exceptional stand and egg cups were crafted by the Birmingham silversmith Alexander Clark & Co Ltd in 1912, and the four egg spoons were crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd in 1930. Condition This antique silver egg cruet set with spoons is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each component has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full British hallmarks to the surface of the stand and each egg cup, in addition to the reverse of each spoon are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique silver egg cruet set with spoons. This silver cruet set is supported and displayed on the original and impressive cast sterling silver circular rounded stand, ornamented with foliate decoration. The surface of the stand bears three circular receivers enabling the egg cups to stand securely in situ; these supports alternate with integrated receivers for the three egg spoons. The receivers surmount an exceptional pedestal constructed of three putto figures stood with their arms elevated, bracing scrolling supports to the plain circular boss. The original antique stand features a central carrying handle modelled in the form of a foliate wreath. Each antique egg cup and egg spoon retains the original gilt interior. The initials displayed within the maker's marks, in addition to the standardization of the surround could pertain to a multitude of antique silversmiths; these silversmiths include William Eaton, Ellerby, Esterbrook and Eley II.     A fine and impressive set of six antique George V English sterling silver menu / card holders - boxed; an addition to our diverse dining silverware collection. These fine antique George V sterling silver menu card holders have circular shaped bases. Each piece is surmounted with an impressive wishbone* shaped design with a paralleling shaped support. The subtly convex bases are encircled with an elevated scalloped border. The weighted bases of these impressive menu holders are fitted with green baize to the underside. This impressive set of antique silver menu card holders is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with two hinged catches. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Robert Stewart (Jewellers) Ltd, 75 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow'. A wishbone, otherwise known as the furcular, is a forked bone found in birds and some dinosaurs. The main function of the bone is to provide strength between the neck and breast, to protect the creature during battle. The Ancient Romans perceived this bone as a symbol of luck which allowed the progression of breaking a dried chicken wishbone apart whilst making a wish; this procedure determined the person with the bigger half would receive their wish or have good fortune.
