An exceptional, fine and impressive, large pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver letter openers/meat skewers; an addition to our Victorian silverware collection.
These large antique Victorian English sterling silver letter openers/meat skewers have a tapered form with a circular ring loop finger piece.
The surface of each skewer is plain and unembellished, apart from the featured hallmarks to the reverse.
These impressive meat skewers are an exceptional and large example of their type.
The original use of this item was purely as a meat skewer. Due to its form, this piece may certainly be used as an effective letter opener.
Condition
These antique Victorian silver meat skewers are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of each skewer are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck very deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

This large antique Victorian sterling silver meat skewer/letter opener has a tapered form.
The surface of this skewer is embellished with a contemporary engraved initial ‘R’ below the plain circular ring loop finger piece.
The reverse surface is plain and unembellished apart from the featured hallmarks.
This fine example of antique silversmith was crafted by the renowned London female silversmith Mary Chawner.
The original use of this item was purely as a meat skewer. Due to its form, this piece may certainly be used as an effective letter opener.
