This is a large gorgeous antique Victorian sterling silver punch bowl bearing the makers mark of the renowned silversmith Walter Barnard with hallmarks forLondon 1892 and retailed by Gibson & Co, Belfast. This exquisite punch bowl is also ideal as a champagne cooler and it has beautiful and incredibly detailed embossed half fluted decoration and is raised on a pedestal foot. It bears a fabulous heraldic crest for the Sharman-Crawford family with the latin motto "Durum Patientia Frango" which translates to "By patience I break what is hard" The SHARMAN-CRAWFORD combined Coat of Arms Born at Moira Castle, at the age of 25 on 5 December 1805, as William SHARMAN, he married at Bangor, Mabel Fridiswid CRAWFORD and had with her eleven children. They lived together at Crawford House, Crawford's Burn, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. Just before his death in 1827, William's brother-in-law Arthur Crawford in a pact with his father, agreed to break the entail on the estate in favour of his sister Mabel Fridiswid CRAWFORD, and William SHARMAN was authorised, by Royal Licence to assume the surname of CRAWFORD in addition to, and after SHARMAN, and to bear the arms of Crawford quarterly with those of Sharman, thus beginning the SHARMAN-CRAWFORD line. This is truly a special item and it will attract the maximum amount of attention, the quality and craftsmanship are undeniable. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver claret jug with matching goblets made by Barnard & Sons Ltd, an addition to our range of collectable silverware This exceptional Victorian sterling silver set consists of a claret jug and two matching goblets. This impressive sterling silver claret jug has an ovoid form onto a circular domed foot. The body of the jug is embellished with a fine and impressive chased tapering swag design incorporating large graduating convex ovoid bead decoration amidst a shaped paralleling border with trefoil motifs on a matte background. The tapering cylindrical neck flares to the shaped rim, which is ornamented with an applied bead decorated border. The neck of the jug is encircled with bead decoration flanking a broad band of chased decoration reflecting the identical design to that of the swag decoration. The circular spreading foot to each item and upper portion of each goblet are embellished with a circular convex bead decorated border in addition to a band of bead ornamentation to the rim and knop. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian glass and silver mounted claret jug; part of our silver mounted glass collection. This exceptional antique Victorian glass and sterling silver and glass claret jug has a circular rounded form onto a circular spreading foot. The upper portion of the glass body is fitted with the original hallmarked sterling silver mount embellished with an incurved shaped border. The plain domed hallmarked hinged cover is encircled with a band of applied bead decoration and surmounted with an impressive swept, knopped bead decorated finial. This Victorian claret jug is fitted with an S-scroll handle featuring a plain scrolling thumb piece. The glass body of the jug is embellished with an exceptional acid etched illustration depicting a putto entangled with flowing ribbons, playing a stylized percussion triangle whilst standing on the back of a moth style insect. In art and culture, a putto (plural: putti) is a chubby male child, usually nude and occasionally bearing wings. Condition The mount of this antique silver and glass claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The mount has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The plain glass body of the jug is in perfect condition.
