The Art Deco movement, which began in the 1920s, was characterized by its use of geometric shapes, clean lines, and bold designs. This style influenced a wide range of decorative arts, including Judaica, where traditional forms were reinterpreted with modern aesthetics.
Poland had a vibrant Jewish community before World War II, known for its contributions to religious, cultural, and artistic life. Judaica from this period often showcases a blend of traditional Jewish themes with contemporary artistic movements like Art Deco.
The candlesticks are set on a circular curved domed base with a baluster stem supporting the two tall symmetrical branches connected at the top with a stylized skyway. At the center of the skyway is a pierced star of David with an engraved name of "Raiza Fraiser" the women these candlesticks were used by. Set atop the branches are two goblet-shaped candlesticks with large and thick bobeches. The Art Deco design not only serves a functional purpose but also adds a modern artistic flair to the ritual.
