About the Item
A refined boxed set of six sterling silver oyster forks with matching serving fork, crafted by James Deakin & Sons, one of Sheffield’s esteemed silversmiths, and fully hallmarked for Sheffield, 1941.
Each fork is elegantly styled in a streamlined Art Deco pattern, featuring fan-shaped fluted handles with stepped edges—an emblematic design of early 1940s British silverwork. The set is housed in its original blue velvet and ivory satin–lined presentation case, with a brass clasp and gilt-edged trim.
A handwritten note accompanying the set indicates it was “bought in London for his wife Deborah W. Estle, 1944 – E. F. Estle.” This personal provenance adds historical depth, connecting the piece to wartime London and the enduring appeal of fine English silver.
