Art Nouveau Silver Jardinière With Cut Glass Insert, Alexander Sturm, Vienna

About the Item

Elegant silver jardinière with an elliptical base on four spherical feet, straight vertical wall with regular openings in the form of rhythmically staggered, intersecting segmental arches, a surrounding decorative relief band and straight rim, J-shaped handles applied lengthwise opposite each other on the outside. Matching glass insert with a serrated upper edge with stone decoration with incised stars on the upper rim protruding from the silver vessel and a large cut star on the base. Dimensions: width: 36,5 cm / 14.37 in depth: 17,5 cm / 6.88 in height: 10,0 cm / 3.93 in Hallmarks: Diana's Head - Viennese official hallmark 1872-1922 Cloverleaf - master's sign of Sturm Vienna, Austria Model number The Sturm Company: Founded in Vienna in 1883 by Alexander Sturm, born in Vienna in 1851. His clientele was primarily members of the emerging middle class of the late 19th century, such as Mautner Markhof, Kattus, Wittgenstein, Meinl, Manner, Piatnik, etc. Later also members of the imperial family are Storm's customers (Archduke Eugen, Archduke Franz Salvator or Archduke Leopold Salvator).At the beginning of the 20th century, the company employed a hundred people.
