Art Nouveau Sterling and Crystal Decanter

About the Item

We are thrilled to offer you this sterling silver and crystal decanter made by Gorham Silversmiths of Providence, Rhode Island. The sterling silver stopper is in the Art Nouveau style that was at its most popular. The crystal decanter has a hexagon shaped base with flat surfaces midway that can be found again towards the top. This gives the piece a multifaceted look. A great accessory to your bar or dining table especially with the holidays approaching.

Based in Corning, NY, T.G. Hawkes & Co. (circa 1880-1959) was established by Thomas Gibbons Hawkes (1846-1913). Born in Ireland, Hawkes immigrated to Brooklyn in 1862, then moved to Corning, opening his own cut glass firm in 1880. His firm, T.G. Hawkes & Co., soon became famous for quality wares. Hawkes' glassware was used in the White House from 1885 until 1938. Hawkes pieces can be found in museums world-wide. Over one hundred years old, this lovely crystal compote with a sterling silver base evokes a time gone-by. A time when entertaining was an art onto its self and beautiful items— objet d’art were sought after and collected. It has a feminine silhouette and delicate etching all around on top. A great piece to leave out on your coffin table...
