Dominick & Haff 6 Mixed Metal (Sterling Silver Gold Inlay) Knives Late 19th C.

About the Item

Set of 6 Dominick & Haff mixed metal breakfast knives from the late 19th century, in American Aesthetic style. These sterling silver knives are inlaid with gold and other metals and showcase stylized natural and floral motifs. With sterling silver blades, they measure 7 1/4'' in length, and bear hallmarks and a monogram as shown. Dominick & Haff was an American silver manufacturer based in New York City. It was co-founded by Henry Blanchard Dominick and Leroy B. Haff in 1872, incorporated in 1889, and it was sold to Reed & Barton in 1928. The firm designed pots, mugs, centerpieces, spoons, tea sets and kettles. Examples can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, Cooper Hewitt, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum. The Metropolitan Museum of Art states: "Dominick & Haff produced a diverse range of magnificently crafted silver and was an influential and defining force in the American silver industry. " These flatware pieces display stylistic similarities with the Dominick & Haff wine pot from 1882, which is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
