Edwardian Sterling Silver Tea Caddy

About the Item

From our Tea Caddy collection, we are pleased to offer this Edwardian Sterling Silver Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy of cylindrical shape with a slightly tapered body stood upon three straight legs. The Tea Caddy beautifully cast with swags of bellflowers meeting a bow at each end. Small oval cartouches of a flower head are cast into each leg at the top above further bellflower decoration down the legs vertically. The lid is surmounted by a traditional English Tudor rose. One leg is marked with the registration mark number 571758. The Tea Caddy is hallmarked John Round & Son Ltd, Sheffield, 1911. Weight 6ozs Sterling Silver is an alloy composed by weight of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness (parts per thousand) of 925. Edwardian the last period in British history to be named after the monarch who reigned over it. Although Edward VII reigned from 1901 to 1910, the Edwardian period is generally considered to have ended at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. John Round & Son Ltd were Silver and Silverplate manufacturers working out of the Tudor works in Sheffield they established in 1847 and went on to enter their first mark in 1874 in Sheffield and 1888-1898 in London Assay Office and 1907 in Chester Assay Office. They advertised as the biggest spoon and fork manufacturers in the world at the time. Measurements (centimetres) 14cm High x 8cm Diameter
