French Empire Sterling Silver Salt Cellar Blue Glass Liners Return from Egypt

French Napoleonic Empire table set "return from Egypt" Made of sterling silver and cobalt blue liners Collectible for it's beauty and hallmarks that were only used during Napoleons Empire The set contains six pieces, two spoons and it's original case Six cobalt blue glass liners with a cut star pattern underneath The salt cellars and mustard pots are formed by three winged sfinxes Standing on claw feed The set is hallmarked and in a very good condition. Sets with six pieces are rare Origin France early 19th century Mustard pots H5in. diameter 2.7 in. Salt cellars H2in. diameter 2.9in. Empire is an early 19th century design movement in architecture, furniture, other decorative arts and visual arts. It represents the 2nd phase of neoclassicism. Popular between 1800 and 1815, the period of the Consulate and the First French Empire, although it lasted until the late 1820s. The Empire style originated in France from which it spread to Europe and the United States. The Empire style derives its name from the reign of Emperor Napoleon I in the First French Empire, when it was intended to idealize Napoleon's leadership and the French state. The previous fashionable style in France was the Directoire style, which replaced the neoclassicism of the Louis XVI style with more restrained and minimalist forms. The new Empire style brought a full return to ostentatious wealth.
