George II Creamboat Made in London in 1740 by Joseph Sanders
About the Item
A VERY FINE GEORGE II CREAM BOAT MADE IN LONDON IN 1740 BY JOSEPH SANDERS.
The Creamboat has an elongated, shallow, form which rises to an everted and shaped rim. The main body stands on three very finely detailed paw feet with majestic lion mask mouldings where they are attached to the main body. This piece has a leaf capped flying scroll handle. The side is engraved with a contemporary Crest and the underside with "The Gift of Mrs Penton to Deborah Grove". This piece is in excellent condition and displays a full set of marks on the underside of the body. Joseph Sanders had workshops in Carey Lane when this creamboat was made.
Length, handle to spout: 6 inches, 15cm.
Width, at the widest point: 3.45 inches, 8.63 cm.
Height to the rim: 2 inches, 5cm.
Height to the top of the handle: 3 inches, 7.5 cm.
