AN IMPORTANT GEORGE IV FOUR BOTTLE DECANTER stand MADE IN LONDON IN 1823 BY William Bateman I This very rare piece has a square platform base with gadrooned edge, displaying a Rococo shell in each corner flanked by acanthus foliage. The base stands on four, detailed, cast winged paw feet. The stand has four reeded octagonal bottle cages and displays, shell, scroll and rose corner supports. The substantial central handle, has incuse corners and a reeded border, and rests on leaf capped shell and scroll supports below. The base is also engraved with a contemporary Crest, this being of the Parker family of London. The four heavy cut glass decanters have a square form, with vertical lobes and diamond cut designs. The stepped neck of the decanter rises to an everted pouring spout and a mushroom shaped stopper. Silver decanter cages are very rare, especially made in the famous Bateman Dynasty workshops. Height of the stand: 12 inches, 30 cm. Diameter of the base: 12.2 inches, 30.5 cm. Height of the decanter: 8 inches, 20 cm. Weight: 44oz.
