Georgian 'George III' Sterling Silver Helmet-Form Cream Jug/Pitcher, by Bateman

Georgian (George III), sterling silver, helmet-form cream jug/pitcher on square, pedestal base, London, year-hallmarked for 1795, Peter and Anne Bateman - makers. Measures 5 3/4 inches high (to top of handle) x 4 inches wide (from outer edge of spout to outer edge of handle) x 2 1/4 inches deep at deepest point. Weighs 3.190 troy ounces. Beaded border. Original script monogram is difficult to read and looks like a design. There are some very minor dints on the square base (see photos) that are commensurate with age and use. Dark spots on silver in photos are reflections. In very good antique condition.

A fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver helmet shaped creamer made by Peter and Ann Bateman, an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection. This fine antique George III sterling silver cream jug has a helmet shaped form onto a pedestal with a circular spreading foot and plain square base. The upper portion of the body is ornamented with a broad band of bright cut engraved irregular undulating decoration. The body of the jug is embellished with a pin struck and bright cut engraved decorated shield shaped vacant cartouche suspended from a stylized ribbon design. The rim of the body is encompassed with an applied reed decorated border. He surface of the square base is embellished with further bright cut engraved and pin struck leaf motifs and simple paralleling border.
