About the Item

Outstanding German glass goblet with stunning silver mountings STYLE: Historicism style of 17th century (made circa 1880 / 90) SILVER 800 branded by German Crescent with Crown (this mark is well visible) MANUFACTORY: Hallmarked by Schleissner & Sons, Hanau (Germany). Founded by Johann Daniel Christian Schleissner (1793-1862). Johann's son, Daniel Philipp August Schleissner (1825-1891), was a great admirer of the renaissance, baroque and rococo periods. Daniel had studied many private and public collections of genuine old silver and acquired much knowledge of the design aesthetics of these periods. He possessed the business acumen to use this knowledge, combined with the application modern silver manufacturing techniques, to efficiently and accurately reproduce fine antique pieces. Under his aegis, the firm emerged as Hanau's pre-eminent producer of antique style silverware in the latter 19th century. [Hanau Silver in the "Antique Style" and Its Marks - Jörg Müller-Daehn] MEASURES: total height: 34.0 cm 13.38 inches (lid included) diameter: 16.5 cm 6.49 inches SPECIFICATIONS: Outstanding rarest GLASS GOBLET WITH LID, decorated with GORGEOUS SILVER MOUNTINGS. 1. Glass The cup is ornamented with stunningly etched ornaments, depicting baskets from which festoons of fruits & flowers are pouring out / additionally, flying birds are visible.The lid is decorated with festoons of fruits & flowers, too. 2. Silver Mountings The cup is trimmed with round foot made of silver / additionally, there is silver framework attached to area above the foot: It is worked in reticulated manner, consisting of various decorations (scrolls, flower-fruit festoons & garlands). - The MOST REMARKABLE DECORATION is the SCULPTURED SAILING SHIP SWAYING ON WAVES, being visible at top of the lid: It is marvellous, indeed ! Finally, there are two silver handholds - shaped as movable rings - attached to the goblet.
