Rare Japanese by Whiting, circa 1874, sterling silver Flatware set - 45 pieces plus 8 Mother of Pearl handle knives- 53 pieces total, in beautiful vintage chest. This Japonesque Aesthetic movement pattern features a multi-motif design depicting realistic birds among a background of grasses, with a bamboo border. This set includes:
8 Knives w/Mother of Pearl handles with sterling collars and plated blunt blades, 8 1/2" (maker unknown)
8 Dinner Forks, 7 5/8"
8 Teaspoons, 6"
8 Place Soup Spoons, 6 7/8"
8 Dessert Knives, flat handle all-sterling, 7"
1 Sugar Sifter Ladle, 5 7/8"
1 Berry Spoon, pointed, 9"
1 Punch Ladle, gold-washed, 12"
2 Sugar Spoons, shell bowl, 6"
1 Flat Handle Master Butter, 7 1/8"
1 Gravy Ladle, bright-cut with bamboo, 6 7/8"
2 Sauce Ladles, 6 1/4" (one has light gold-wash)
1 Egg Spoon, gold-washed, pointed, 6 1/4"

Includes gorgeous vintage storage chest with interior scene embroidered with spring flowers and hummingbird.
Excellent vintage condition, some pieces with varying monograms on the reverse (some no monogram). Early flatware sets commonly did not include hollow handle knives, so traditionally in these very early sets, Mother of Pearl handle knives were used. This set will be lightly polished and sealed in individual plastic sleeves prior to shipping. Fabulous!

An absolutely spectacular collection of "Lily" pattern sterling silver flatware mostly by Whiting an assembled set from an estate collection which was started in the 1970's. The pattern was introduced in 1902 and features a stunning high-relief handle with stalks of blossoming lily flowers across the surface. Please be aware this set is of mixed age, some antique 1902 pat pieces, some contemporary - view individual item marks below.
This set includes a 5 piece place setting for 18 people, or an 8 piece place setting for 12! There is a fair amount of rare serving pieces included with the set.
