About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Georgian English sterling silver sauceboats; an addition to our dining silverware collection These exceptional antique George III sterling silver sauceboats have an oval rounded form in the Regency style. The body of each sauceboat is embellished with impressive chased floral and foliate decoration accented with a scrolling leaf bordered panels of scale motif diaper pattern. The decoration to each body incorporates a shaped scroll bordered vacant cartouche to either side. The feature ornamentation to the underside of the lip of each fine gravy boat depicts a scene of five grouse style birds nestled together on a grassy terrain with a hillside landscape to the background. Each large sauceboat is ornamented with an impressive applied gadroon decorated border with incurved scrolling terminals to either side of the upper portion of the handle. The sauceboats are fitted with opposing scroll handles featuring impressive leaf decorated thumbpieces. Each of these fine examples of Georgian silverware is supported by a plain oval pedestal foot encircled with an impressive gadroon decorated border to the rim. These impressive sauceboats are struck with an additional date letter for 1840 to denote the completion of the exceptional chased decoration to the body. Condition These antique sauceboats are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition. The chased and applied decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the each lip are all very clear; the first letter of the maker’s mark to one sauceboat is rubbed. The second date letter to the surface of each gravy boat is also very clear. Dimensions Length from back of handle to lip 21cm/8.3", Width 10cm/3.9", Height to top of handle 16.3cm/6.4". An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George III Irish sterling silver sauceboats or gravy boats; an addition to our Georgian dining silverware collection. These fine antique Georgian Irish sterling silver sauceboats have a plain oval rounded form. The body of each gravy boat is embellished with impressive concave fluted decoration emanating from a central point of the underside, accented with graduating circular motifs to the terminals to the sides. The rims of these impressive sauce boats are encompassed with a band of concave circular motifs. The sauceboats are fitted with opposing scroll handles featuring chased stylized leaf design to the upper portion, incorporating a scrolling leaf decorated thumbpiece. Each example of antique Georgian silverware is supported by three impressive applied hoof feet with stylized shell decorated sockets, accented with a sunburst design in junction with the body. Pairs of Irish silver sauceboats in such exceptional condition are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition These antique sauceboats are an exceptional gauge of silver for their type, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
