About the Item

Head of Minerve 1 st titre for 950/1000 French sterling silver guarantee. Extremely rare Pie/Pastry/Fish Server of truly exceptional quality, for the richness of Empire pattern. Handle decorated on a stippled backround with grape-vines, flowers and palmettes , embellished on one side by a swan, a cornucopia, laurel branches. The other side with Putti and flowers basket. No monograms. This model was shown in the 1929 exhibition "Orfevrerie civile francaise de la Revolution à nos jours" at the Musee des Arts decoratifs in Paris. Museum quality. Designed in 1802 by the architect Charles Percier who was the inventor and main representative of this version of the rich archaeological and conscientiously Neoclassicism: the Empire style. This model was made by the silversmith of Napoleon 1st, Martin-guillaume Biennais for the empress Josephine de Beauharnais in 1804. In an extreme refinement, appear the swan, Josephine’s emblem and the different empire attributes. Prestigious silversmith : Pierre Francois Queille.
