Silver Austria Vienna Set of Dishes Countess Sandizell-Lamberg by Klinkosch

About

Silver Austrian gorgeous travelling set of dishes and flatware / of most elegant appearance. Particular feature: One-off production / special design in original casket, once having owned by Countess Wanda Antonia von Sandizell – Lamberg (1867 – 1937) / manufactured 1895 = there is a metal plaque attached to casket's lid with referring name and date. - The countess gave birth to her son Carl Max von und zu Sandizell (died 1962) in year 1895 - possibly this splendid set is a gift of her husband Count Carl Theodor von und zu Sandizell (1865 - 1939), member of an old Bavarian noble dynasty. Manufactory: Famous Viennese silver manufactory Josef Carl Klinkosch (hallmarked). Original wooden casket with original interior decoration. There is name of manufactory visible at inner side of lid (impressed with golden letters): - coats of arms of manufactory with Austrian imperial double eagle (= purveyor to the Imperial Household) - J.C. Klinkosch / Vienna Manufactured 1895 made of silver 800 1. Branded by Viennese Diana's Head Mark (1867-1922) + 3 (= which means SILVER 800) 2. Initials of manufactory existing: J.C.K. (firm JOSEF CARL KLINKOSCH) 3. Sign of silversmith visible, too: M-S Bibliography: Waltraud Neuwirth, Wiener Gold-und Silberschmiede und ihre Punzen (= Viennese Gold-and Silversmiths and their signs), vol. I , Vienna 1976, pages 295 - 301 and vol. II (page 372) The manufactory Mayerhofer and Klinkosch had been one of the most successfull silver manufactories of old imperial Austria. There was a change in the year 1869 when the son Josef Carl Klinkosch became single owner of manufactory - therefore firm's name was changed into: "Gold-, Silber- und Metallwaren-Fabrik J. C. Klinkosch". But firm's success remained the same: Josef Carl Klinkosch worked very often under the authority (per order) of Austrian emperor as his father had done. - Many of Klinkosch's works are kept safe in former Viennese Imperial Castle (in so-said 'Hofsilber- und Tafelkammer' of Viennese Castle). Josef Carl Klinkosch died in the year 1888, and the firm was taken over by his sons Arthur (died 1899) and Isidor (died 1914). The Klinkosch firm was bought by Arthur Krupp in the year 1918 and was active by use of name J.C. Klinkosch A.G.“ then. The manufactory gave up existence in the year 1972. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This silver set consists of dishes as well as of cutlery / flatware: Dishes: • soup bowl with dome-shaped lid: total height 5.11 inches / diameter 5.51 inches • soup bowl with dome-shaped lid: total height 4.72 inches / diameter 6.10 inches • drinking glass cup with silver dome-shaped lid: total height 5.51 inches / diameter 2.75 inches • glass bowl with silver dome-shaped lid: total height 3.93 inches / diameter 5.11 inches • bowl with handle: total height 2.75 inches / diameter 5.31 inches • small bowl for spices: total height 1.77 inches / diameter 2.36 inches • eggcup: total height 3.14 inches / diameter 1.45 inches • oval serving platter: length 12.79 inches / depth 9.055 inches • dinner plate: diameter 10.23 inches • dessert plate: diameter 8.07 inches • silver saucer of glass beaker: diameter 5.70 inches • silver saucer of bowl with handle: diameter 7.08 inches Cutlery / flatware: • appetizer cutlery, consisting of spoon, knife and fork: length: 7.28 inches - 8.26 inches • dinner cutlery, consisting of spoon, knife and fork: length: 8.26 inches - 9.84 inches • dinner cutlery, consisting of knife and fork: length: 8.26 inches - 9.84 inches • ladle with handle : length 9.64 inches • knife for butter: length 8.26 inches • coffee spoon: length 5.70 inches • mocha spoon: length 4.13 inches • spoon for spices: length 3.54 inches ____________________________________________ • Measures of wooden casket: Height 9.44 inches Width 15.74 inches Depth 14.17 inches Items of this set are manufactured in most elegant style of Viennese Historicism (= similar to Victorian Style): Stunning decorations made in chasing work existing - they consist of floral ornaments (flower's blossoms with leaves and acanthus leaves) / beyond that, the lids are topped with sculptured flower's blossoms with leaves.
