About the Item

Austrian excellent silver candlestick / candleholder. Made, circa 1890-1895. Very interesting Viennese silver candlestick of excellent manufacturing quality as well as of elegant appearance: This candlestick is made in style of Historicism although it was manufactured, circa 1890-95. The stalk is shaped as sculptured female figurine with necklace and knotted hair, wearing a short girdled dress / mentioned figurine balances the three-armed candelabrum on her head / the grommets of a vase's form type are connected to each other by stunningly made arms of rarest form type (= with reticulated lockets framed by scrolls). Additionally, the grommet attached to top is covered by a stopper shaped as a sculptured winged cherub's figurine. Finally, the sculptured stalk's female figurine is based on a pedestal decorated with masks of lion / the mentioned pedestal is attached to square-shaped tiered socle having feet which consist of winged creatures. ____________________________________________________________ Silver 800. Branded by Austrian so-said diana's head mark 1872-1922. Master’s mark existing: 'ES'. Most probably it is Eduard Steiter / the manufactory was established in year 1889 / the master retired in year 1920. Residence of manufactory was in A - 1160 Vienna, Brunnengasse 12 (as from 1891 until 1896) / the silversmith moved to following address then: A - 1160 Vienna, Neumayergasse 4, where he stayed there until the year 1920 when he retired.
