About the Item
An Impressive Applied Filigree Silver Kiddush Goblet made by Bezalel in Israel, Circa 1950.
Another magnificent piece of Bezalel craftsmanship at its finest. Bezalel's style and particular design are not present on any other pieces of Judaica. The patterns, motifs, and filigree work are truly one of a kind and breathtaking to behold.
This particular kiddush Goblet is set on a domed base with beautiful filigree scrolling along with chased foliate and grape cluster motifs. The words 'Bezalel', 'Jerusalem', and Israel are all chased into its base among the foliate motifs.
Mounted by a cylindrical stem adorned with filigree encircled beads and filigree undulating scrolling at top and bottom similar to the base.
A large and wide-spreading cup is set to the top and is gloriously decorated with harmonious applied filigree scrolling, and chased with flowing vine, and grape cluster motifs.
Embellished to the main body are three large roundels encircled with applied circlular filigree designs containing small beads and at the center of each roundel is a prominent turquoise stone.
Finished with banded lip and similar wavy filigree scrolling.
Three cartouches are present on the upper body which have three Hebraic phrases pertaining to wine and its effects, chased into them. One says "Wine will make a man's heart merry". Another says " The only true happiness is with wine". The last says "On the grapevine and on the fruit of the vine" which refers to the blessing made after drinking wine.
Marked on the cylindrical stem and signed on the domed base.
