Silver & Glass Biscuit Barrel or Cookie Jar with Coiled Rope Finial
About the Item
An extremely unusual Victorian silver mounted biscuit box or cookie jar, made in the form of a barrel. The frosted glass barrel has a silver base and rim, and the removable lid has a finial comprising a label reading "BISCUITS" sitting against a coiled silver rope.
This lovely example of a nineteenth century novelty is beautifully made and each separate piece of silver is original and hallmarked for Martin and Hall in 1870.
