About the Item

A Fancy Silver Kiddush Goblet, made in Austria Circa 1860. Kiddush Goblet is uniquely designed as this kiddush has no distinct shape and has distinctive ridges running across the length located at equal distances, radically fluted from base to banded lip, and adorned with different motifs. Goblet is set on a shaped circular fluted domed base with leaf motifs impressed in a repousse fashion and applied to a beaded baluster knopped stem. Upper bowl is florally funnel-shaped with connecting vines and clusters of grapes elegantly impress from reversed and intricately chased under its banded lip. Under the grape motifs on the upper bowl is a dedication that reads "This Goblet was donated by the gabbai of the synagogue Chaim Yisrael the son of Yitzchak Halevi" engraved neatly in Hebrew. There are a series of dots etched on top of certain letters in the dedication which correlate to the year the dedication was engraved and the goblet dedicated. Engraved under the banded lip are the words "A Cup of Salvation I will raise, For Kiddush and Havdalah" in Hebrew, which seemingly tells us that is what the goblets' intended uses were for at the synagogue. Hallmarked at the side of the domed base.
