About the Item

This silver Kiddush goblet from Jerusalem circa 1950 decorated with intricate filigree designs is a valuable and culturally significant piece of Judaica. The style and patterns of the filigree patterns embossed onto this goblet are reminiscent of design work done by the Bezalel School of Arts. The beaded decorations are quite unusual for a goblet made in this era and it's very likely a craftsman who studied in that school created this goblet and was possibly of Yemenite descent as evidenced by the beads placed in the center of the filigree designs. Goblet is set on a circular domed base with filigree scrolling beautifully decorating the dome and the lower and upper sections of the banded cylindrical stem. The tulip-shaped bowl is harmoniously adorned with undulating filigree scrolling and embellished with ornate stars and floral-shaped medallions bedecked with circlets of filigree and various-sized beads. Judaica items from Jerusalem, especially from the early years of the Israeli state, are highly valued for their historical context and artistic merit. The goblet's decorative and functional aspects make it a cherished item in Jewish households, used during important religious observances. The craftsmanship and design of the goblet reflect the cultural and religious heritage of Jerusalem's Jewish community. Marked at the bottom of the inner base. 4.95ozt
