Unique Georgian Sterling Tureen, c1802

About the Item

Circa 1802, sterling, John Roberts & Co., Sheffield, England. This very unusual tureen consists of the main tureen with an inserted vegetable dish, which is the uncommon part. All three pieces are an exact fit, each with a matching armorial and butler’s silver closet inventory number. The style is classic late Georgian, featuring a fluted body with gadrooned edges, they are perfect for use in any décor. Consisting of four pieces, the two containers, the lid, and the removable handle, this set is very heavy and superbly made. Excellent condition. An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George III English sterling silver sauce tureens with ladles; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection. These exceptional antique George III sterling silver sauce tureens have a plain rectangular rounded form. The body of each tureen is plain and embellished with an applied gadroon decorated border to the lower portion and upper rim. These impressive silver tureens retain the original hallmarked push fit covers ornamented with further applied gadroon decoration to the upper plateau in addition to the base of the impressive reed decorated handle enveloped with leaf designs to the terminals. The surface of each cover is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a falcon holding a partridge between her feet and encompassed with the belted motto 'Qui potest capere capiat', Let him who can take, take. Each Georgian tureen is fitted with two fine and original ring loop handles above an impressive lion mask ornamentation. Each tureen is supported by four impressive shaped legs with paw feet.
