About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver teapot; an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection. This exceptional antique Georgian silver teapot has a circular compressed form onto four cast and applied feet. The surface of this silver teapot is embellished with a band of chased fluted decoration to the lower portion, in addition to a band of cast applied egg and tongue decoration to the upper portion and to the border of the impressive sterling silver teapot. The lower portion of the teapot is embellished with an contemporary bright cut engraved crest, depicting a lion passant. This impressive antique silver teapot is fitted with the original hallmarked flush hinged subtly domed cover, which features further fluted decoration surrounding the original carved wood and sterling silver finial. The 19th century silver teapot retains the original carved wood angular handle, with an impressive thumbpiece carved to resemble a leaf. This fine example of silver teaware is fitted with a swan necked spout, ornamented to the underside with further fluted decoration. The silver teapot is supported by four impressive cast and applied paw style feet, each accented with foliate ornamentation to the terminal. Condition This antique 19th century silver teapot is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast applied decoration is sharp and the contemporary bright cut engraved crest is crisp. The full hallmarks struck to the underside of the teapot and the part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
