Antique 19th Century Victorian very rare pair of novelty cast solid silver table salt & pepper, realistically modelled as two childrens heads, one laughing and the other crying, with screw lids to the base. Both hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1880 (E), Maker JBH (James Barclay Hennell), stamped with a patent. CONDITION In Great Condition - No Damage. SIZE Height (each): 5cm Width (each): 4.5cm Depth: 3.5cm Total Weight: 132g

    A fine and impressive, unusual antique Victorian English sterling silver novelty pepper shaker; an addition to our diverse silverware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver novelty pepper has a plain ovoid shaped form. The body of the pepper is embellished with impressive chased decoration depicting a cracked egg shell with a boy’s face and hands to the anterior surface and his feet and buttocks to the reverse. The body has pierced 'pepper' holes in a hexagram formation to the upper portion. This pepper retains the original fully hallmarked screw fit weighted base; which when unscrewed provides access to permit the pot to be filled. This novelty pepper is a fine example of its type.
