Antique Dutch Silver Locking Tea Caddy Circa 1807

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Dutch silver locking tea caddy; an addition to our silver teaware collection. This fine Dutch silver antique tea caddy has a tapering oval form. The surface of this antique Dutch silver tea caddy is plain and unembellished, with an applied reed decorated border to the upper and lower rims. This antique silver tea caddy is fitted with a swept hinged cover surmounted with the original carved painted wood oval fluted finial. This antique 19th century silver tea caddy is fitted with a fully working lock and key. The underside of this Dutch silver tea caddy include: Maker's mark: VV (untraced) Silver quality/purity mark: Crown (.934, 934/1000) Date mark: a (used between 7th October 1807 - March 1809) Export mark: Axe/hatchet mark* This tea caddy has the same credentials and is crafted in the same style as the tea service C7728 and would all sit well together. * This mark was used as an export tax mark on old Netherlands hallmarked items returning to the market. Condition This antique 19th century silver tea caddy is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The caddy has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The Dutch hallmarks struck to the underside of the tea caddy are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
