Antique George IV Sterling Silver Toast Rack

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George IV English sterling silver toast/letter rack by Howard, Battie & Hawksworth; an addition to our dining silverware collection This exceptional antique George IV sterling silver toast rack has an incurved arched form. This antique silver toast rack has six compartments divided by a pierced incurved arch style frame incorporating a central carrying handle. The cast sterling silver oval carrying handle surmounts an impressive scroll bordered vacant cartouche. The hallmarked rectangular rounded shaped base has a plain central strut. The base is embellished with an embossed and applied gadroon decorated border, accented with leaf designs to either end. This impressive toast rack is supported by four impressive cast silver leaf decorated bracket style feet. Condition This antique silver toast rack is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast, embossed and applied decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the base are all very clear; the hallmarks have been deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this hallmarked solid silver toast rack.     An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George IV English sterling silver gilt grape shears - boxed; an addition to our silver flatware collection. This exceptional pair of antique cast sterling silver gilt grape shears has a hinged scissor action. The handles of these antique silver grape scissors are embellished with intertwining fruiting vine ornamentation, accented with grape clusters and foliage. The fingerpieces are ornamented with details reproducing the features of the natural vine. The circular hinged portion is surmounted with a lobed rosette design. The grape shears are fitted with plain and unembellished blades, with a rounded outer edge. These exceptional examples of 19th century silverware retain the original gilding. These impressive sterling silver grape shears are fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box, with a velvet and satin lined interior, securing with a push fit catch. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Reid & Sons, Diamond Merchants, By Appointment to the Late Queen Victorian, Newcastle upon Tyne'. These exceptional antique George IV grape shears are the finest of their type you could hope to acquire. The initials within the maker's marks, in addition to the standardisation of the surround could pertain to a multitude of antique silversmiths; these silversmiths include William Eaton, Esterbrook and Eley II. Condition These antique boxed grape scissors are a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp and the gilding is in excellent condition; this indicates the pieces have seen little to no use. Full hallmarks struck across the interior of the blades are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.     An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique George IV English sterling silver boxes; an addition to our 19th century silverware collection. These exceptional and rare antique George IV sterling silver boxes have a plain rectangular form. The surface of each silver box is plain and unembellished, with applied thread decoration to the lower rim. Each box is fitted with a plain hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with further applied thread decoration to the upper rim. The upper plateaus of the covers are individually embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest: one bears out of a ducal coronet a wyvern below the motto 'Avi Numerantur Avorum' - The forefathers of our forefathers are numbered and to the other an eagle regardant with wings extended grasping an escutcheon charged with a lion's head, below the 'Virtute et Robore' - By Virtue and Strength. By virtue of its size these versatile 19th century boxes could be used for a multitude of functions. Such original boxes of this period and size are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
