An exceptional, fine and impressive Russian silver and niello enamel beaker; an addition to our Russian silverware collection. This exceptional antique Russian silver beaker has a plain cylindrical, tapering form. The surface of this antique beaker is embellished with a niello enamel pattern incorporating a vacant shield shaped vacant cartouche to one side. The upper rim of the beaker is encircled with an applied moulded border. The hallmarks to the underside of this antique silver beaker include Maker's Mark: AO (Aleksey Osipov/??????? ??????) Assay mark: B.C 1865. Silver quality or purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks.) City mark: St George slaying the dragon (Moscow, Russia.) This assayer could be either Viktor Vasilyevich Savinsky or Veniamin Vasilyevich Savinsky. 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver. Condition This fine antique beaker is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The Russian hallmarks struck to the underside of the beaker are all clear in keeping with age and location. Dimensions Diameter of rim 7.1cm/2.8". Diameter of foot 5.4cm/2.1". Height 7.4cm/2.9". This exceptional antique Russian silver gilt beaker has a cylindrical, tapering form. The surface of this antique beaker is embellished with a fine niello enamel scene depicting a structural rooftop skyline behind a towered brick wall, incorporating cloud designs on the matte textured upper portion.
