Antique Sterling Silver Four-Leaf Clover Menu / Cardholders

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive set of four antique George V English sterling silver and enamel four-leaf clover menu / card holders; an addition to our diverse dining silverware collection. These exceptional antique menu holders, in sterling silver, have circular bases. The hallmarked anterior surface of each George V menu holder has been modelled in the form of a four-leaf clover design and embellished with fine green guilloche enamel panels. Each piece is surmounted with a plain circular design to the posterior. The bases of these impressive enamel and silver menu card holders are plain and unembellished, apart from the feature hallmarks. Condition These impressive antique menu holders are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The enamel decoration is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base and the lion passant to each clover design stalk are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.     A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver mustard pot; an addition to our silver cruets/condiments collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has a plain cylindrical form. The body of the mustard pot is embellished with pierced interlacing shaped arches accented with simplified floral motifs. The upper and lower rim of this sterling mustard pot is ornamented with an applied ribbed border. This fine mustard pot retains the original hallmarked hinged subtly domed cover surmounted with an impressive scrolling leaf decorated thumbpiece. The surface of the cover is embellished with pin struck decoration emanating from the centre in addition to a wriggle work stylised floral design. Each spoon and fork is embellished with a paralleling border to the handle, in addition to a pointed terminal. The original table and dessert knives, in addition to the carving set are fitted with composite handles, and the fish service and fruit service all retain the original plain rounded mother of pearl handles; each with plain ferrules. The fundamental pieces of the basic service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd between 1934-1939; these pieces will have been crafted in fewer years but due to the hallmarking system the components bear the date letters 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v' and 'w'. This service will have been retailed as a complete set and between the dates stated. The stainless steel blades of the original composite handled table and dessert knives bear the mark 'By Appointment to the Late King George V, Viners Ltd, Sheffield' accented with 'Stainless Deluxe'. This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right. The table is fitted with a pair of Art Deco style gilt metal handles to each drawer, in addition to plain escutcheons. This exceptional cutlery table is supported by four plain legs with tapering knopped feet. The velvet interior of each draw has some wear in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in presentation condition.
