About the Item

A rare early 19th century silver and Horn Mounted Roasting Fork. This rare and unusual piece is a fine quality item made for a 19th-century gentleman and most likely for his use whilst on a hunting expedition probably big game hunting in Africa as the handle is made from an impala horn which is silver mounted with a decorative and beautifully engraved pommel cap and matching ferrule. The two-pronged steel fork is long, slender and very sharp. This implement is intended for hand roasting a piece of meat over a campfire. Its length giving protection from the heat. An expensive and luxurious tool for a gentleman hunter traveller. This item has a maker’s mark stamped on the fork and is in good condition with a few minor age-related small dents to the silver pommel cap. Dimensions: W 5 cm (2") x D 5 cm (2") x H 61 cm (24").
