An exceptional, fine and impressive antique American cast sterling silver gilt olive straining spoon made by Gorham Manufacturing Company; an addition to our silver teaware collection, This exceptional antique American cast Gorham silver spoon, in sterling standard, has a navette shaped form with a narrow stem handle and pointed terminal. The elliptic shaped bowl is ornamented with pierced decoration replicating the veins of a leaf, encompassed with engraved details to form the leaf's texture and outline. This sterling silver olive serving spoon is further ornamented with an elongated stem realistically modelled in the form of an olive branch, with a central cast olive and leaf design. The terminal of this impressive Gorham sterling silver straining spoon features a tapering, tiered spear design. This exceptional spoon retains the original gilding. The hallmarks struck to the reverse of this impressive spoon include: Maker's mark: G (Gorham Manufacturing Company) Anchor mark: Gorham trademark anchor Silver quality/purity mark: Sterling (925, 925/1000) Registration number: 267 This Aesthetic movement, naturalistic formed spoon can be found in the 1886-1890 Gorham catalogue and is listed as an 'Olive Spoon and Fork' despite the spear to the terminal, with a variation of the design presented with a two pronged fork. Condition This antique Gorham sterling silver straining spoon is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The American hallmarks struck to the reverse of the handle stem are very clear.
