About the Item

A fine example of American Arts & Crafts metalwork by the Roycroft community, this copper crumber and tray set was produced in East Aurora, New York, in the early 20th century. Designed for table service, the long handled crumber and coordinating tray are hand-hammered with a warm patinated surface, showcasing the distinctive craftsmanship of the Roycrofters. The crumber features a gracefully curved handle and wide blade, perfectly fitted to sweep crumbs into the shallow tray. Both pieces bear the hand-wrought character that defines Roycroft copper, with simple lines elevated by the honest beauty of the hammered finish. Provenance & Maker Founded by Elbert Hubbard in 1895, the Roycroft community became a central force in the American Arts & Crafts movement, creating furniture, lighting, and metalwork of enduring quality and design. Copper pieces such as this set were highly regarded for their marriage of function and artistry, embodying the ideals of handcrafted integrity.
