A set of five small "Mignon" plates in faience. Geometric pattern in black and white. Circa 1960. Model number 4555. Marked "import." In excellent condition, one plate with insignificant glaze chipping. Dimensions: D 15.5 cm x H 2.5 cm. Schramberg Majolika-Fabrik, founded in 1820 in Schramberg, Germany, was a leading ceramics and majolica producer known for colorful hand-painted designs and sculptural forms, especially in Bauhaus and Art Deco styles. The Meyer family took over in 1912, introducing the famous SMF mark. Post-war designs by Eva Zeisel and Elfi Stadler became iconic. Production ceased in 1989. Today, Schramberg ceramics are highly sought after by collectors.

Robert Picault (1919 - 2000) French ceramist in Vallauris Robert Picault has contributed to the revival of culinary ceramics by updating traditional local forms decorated with lines and geometric designs. His identity style has been a great success and continues to decorate the table today. His personal pieces are sought after by art collectors. A former student of the School of Applied Arts in Paris, Robert Picault arrived in Vallauris in 1946. He created with his school friends Roger Capron (1922-2006) and Jean Derval (1925-2010), the Callis workshop.
