Set of 12 Antique Austrian Gilt & Jeweled Bronze Dinner Place Card Holders

About the Item

A fine set of 12 place card holders. With gilt bronze filigree faces that are each set with round glass cabochons and that are each supported by a semi-circular foot. The glass cabochons span the color spectrum from opaque pink and turquoise to clear, red, green, and blue. Simply a wonderful set of place card holders that would be a wonderful complement to Moser glassware or any well-set dining table! Date: Early 20th century Overall condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. There is some persistent tarnish to some of the gilt bronze, with some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Measurements: Height: ca. 1 1/8 in. Width: ca. 1 1/8 in. Depth: ca. 3/8 in. Items purchased from this dealer must delight you. Purchases may be returned for any reason for a period of 7 days.

    A fine and impressive set of six antique George V English sterling silver menu / card holders - boxed; an addition to our diverse dining silverware collection. These fine antique George V sterling silver menu card holders have circular shaped bases. Each piece is surmounted with an impressive wishbone* shaped design with a paralleling shaped support. The subtly convex bases are encircled with an elevated scalloped border. The weighted bases of these impressive menu holders are fitted with green baize to the underside. This impressive set of antique silver menu card holders is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with two hinged catches. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Robert Stewart (Jewellers) Ltd, 75 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow'. A wishbone, otherwise known as the furcular, is a forked bone found in birds and some dinosaurs. The main function of the bone is to provide strength between the neck and breast, to protect the creature during battle. The Ancient Romans perceived this bone as a symbol of luck which allowed the progression of breaking a dried chicken wishbone apart whilst making a wish; this procedure determined the person with the bigger half would receive their wish or have good fortune.
