A very rare set of six George II Scot's Fiddle Pattern Teaspoons made in Edinburgh circa 1745 by John Welsh.

About the Item

The Teaspoons are modelled in the very rare Scot's Fiddle pattern, a design peculiar to Scotland. Each has a drop on the back of the bowl and the top of each stem is engraved with a set of contemporary initials in typical Scottish script. Length: 4.9 inches.

The teaspoons are of a most unusual design and are modeled in the Hanoverian style. The shaped stems display a raised bearded male mask surrounded by Rococo shell and scroll details. The reverse of the stem displays foliate designs and a vacant Rococo scroll cartouche. The reverse of the bowl displays a raised shell and scroll back and the stems are marked with the maker's mark and sterling mark. The spoons are in quite excellent condition.
