Japanese Eggshell Porcelain Tea Set with Lithophane “Geisha”
Teapot with Bamboo Handle.
Rare and detailed example of the Japanese lithophane tea set, set in a thin as an eggshell porcelain.
When you are finished with your tea, a beautiful geisha appears when your cup is held up to the light.
A lithophane (Greek for “light in stone” or “appear in stone”) is three-dimensional imagery etched or molded in translucent porcelain — only visible when back lit with a light source.
