The more recent history begins with Jacob Uffrecht (24.12.1817 to 19.01.1892), who spent his main period of activity as a ceramist in Haldensleben. There he founded a pottery factory in 1855 and an earthenware factory in 1884. He described his life story in the so-called "Gagstädter Brief". A description of his development, the conditions in the environment of his ceramic factories, the work in and for the city of Haldensleben. In 1886 Jacob Uffrecht withdrew from the business and his sons Heinrich (1842 - 1919), Hermann (1843 - 1892) and Jacob (1847 - 1911) were now responsible for the company, now named "J.Uffrecht & Co". The company produced an extensive range of household tableware for everyday use and sanitary ware. It was not until after the turn of the century that the company tried, not without success, to offer more products with a special artistic touch. The company also benefited from the work of one of Heinrich Uffrecht's sons, Theodor Heinrich (1878 - 1954), who learned the manufacturing process in all stages of production at a young age before studying art and later working as a freelance artist in Haldensleben. His older brother Martin Uffrecht (1874 - 1934) joined the company in 1906 as an authorized signatory and became the sole owner in 1910.During this period, a major fire destroyed significant parts of the factory. Reconstruction began immediately. With the beginning of World War I, the personnel and economic situation worsened, and the availability of quality raw materials and the demand situation also had a negative effect. Therefore, since 1925, almost exclusively art ceramics were produced according to the old tradition. Already in 1924 the economic situation, supported by inflationary developments, had led to a lease to the Carstens company and to the new company name "Carstens-Uffrecht". After the death of Martin Uffrecht in 1934, the company was merged into the "Fa. Carstens - Uffrecht Kommanditgesellschaft". In 1948, all Carstens - Uffrecht KG plants located in Haldensleben were transferred to national ownership. Thus the name Uffrecht disappeared from the company name. A successful family business had come to an end. Until 1976, decorative and household ceramics were still produced in the former plant in Hagenstraße.

The latter was dissolved by the National Socialists in 1938. History In 1920, on the occasion of an exhibition in the Vienna Museum of Art and Industry, the fundamental discussion flared up again as to whether the Austrian Werkbund should be oriented towards arts and crafts or whether serial, industrial production based on artistic designs should be the decisive factor. This discussion had been initiated by the art critics Arthur Rössler and Hans Tietze; the latter spoke of "a thousand cute things...
