Salvador Teran: Salvador Terán was an outstanding designer and silversmith, and like many of his contemporaries, received his early training at William Spratling’s Taller de Las Delicias. In 1939, he and his cousins left Spratling to establish Los Castillo. They remained with the company for thirteen years working anonymously. Then in 1952, Salvador decided to leave and establish a taller in Mexico City where he employed twenty-five designers. The body of work that flowed from his workshop found inspiration in pre-Columbian motifs. However Salvador’s interpretations were unique, with exuberate forms in overlapping planes, resulting in pieces with great movement. These innovative designs, sold through La India Bonita, received immediate public recognition for their excellence in design and craftsmanship.
