This particular ashworth ironstone three-piece tureen ensemble is quite unique because of its interior decoration; and because of its large size; difficult to find either one of these attributes but exceptionally hard to have both the size and the decor inside the bowl (see image). Note the high quality of the extensive floral and geometric hand painted design all around, and the richness of the colors; navy, gold, pink, blue, and rust. Ironstone china has been popular in England from the 19th century until today, and the Ashworth Company along with the Mason's Company of Great Britain were the two leading producers in the mid to late 19th century. This piece dates from circa 1872. Ashworth ironstone is highly sought after by collectors who are looking for high quality pieces such as this tureen set. The orange "B" along with the number and the lion hallmark identify this piece to be Ashworth with the date indicated. The G.L. Ashworth & Sons Company began business in 1861 in Hanley, England. These three pieces; platter, tureen, and lid, are in excellent and all original condition with no chips or repairs. The pattern and intensity of the colors is extraordinary. Dimensions: Base platter 17 1/4" long x 13 3/4" wide Tureen with lid 15" long x 8" wide x 10" high.
