Victorian Antique Sterling Silver Pair of Sauce Tureens by John Figg
About the Item
Hallmarked in London in 1842 by John Figg, this extraordinary pair of Victorian, antique sterling silver Sauce Tureens, feature scroll borders, ornate handles and feet, and engraved crests and mottos. Each sauce tureen measures 7"(18cm) tall, by 10"(25cm) wide, and the pair together weigh a substantial 70 troy ounces.
The heraldic engraving depicts the marital arms of an Italian Baron from the Bancherio family of Sicily, most likely to another Italian Lady of high social standing, however we have been unable to trace the Bride's family. The motto is used by the Della Gherardesca from Firenze which would suggest a connection.
