This exquisite 19th-century wine cooler is sculpted from the finest mahogany into a distinctive sarcophagus shape. The top is adorned with intricately carved grape and grape leaf motifs, framed by gadrooned borders. The piece rests on elegantly scrolled leaf and grape feet, each concealing casters for ease of movement. A bronze leopard handle brings a dynamic contrast, infusing the piece with a sense of untamed elegance.
As a quintessential piece of Regency furniture, this wine cooler was designed by the period's most celebrated creator, Thomas Hope. As a member of a distinguished European family, Hope's extensive travels through Europe, Greece, Turkey and Egypt profoundly influenced his design sensibilities.
