Vintage Silver Plated Monteith Punch Bowl Champagne Cooler 20th Century

About the Item

This is a gorgeous vintage silver plated Monteith champagne cooler dating from he late 20th C Around the top of this exquisite punch bowl are bunches of grapes that are connected by twisting vines which are flanked by leaves. This beautiful embossed decoration is incredibly detailed. This is truly a special item and it will attract the maximum amount of attention from all of your dinner guests, and the quality and craftsmanship are undeniable. Dimensions in cm: Height 27 x Width 39 x Depth 39 Dimensions in inches: Height 11 inches x Width 1 foot, 3 inches x Depth 1 foot, 3 inches Monteiths are of a similar design to punch bowls. They were conceived in England as a ‘variation on a theme’. Allegedly they were designed by a gentleman called Monteith, who was renowned for wearing a scalloped coat. Monteiths were originally made with a shaped or notched upper rim, (of similar design to their namesake’s coat). This emarginated rim allowed a punch ladle, tall glasses and a lemon strainer to be held by the bowl. Later this became a removable ’crown’, allowing the bowl to be used as a punch bowl.
