19th century hand-painted mercury thermometer/barometer, made by Bianchi

About the Item

This hand-painted mercury thermometer/barometer dates from the first half of the 19th century. It was made by Bianchi, as can be read at the top of the thermometer. Very rare! Barthélémy-Urbain BIANCHI (1821-1898), engineer-optician, distinguished himself on many occasions by serving the interests of science. He was thus rewarded a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1855. He was also decorated Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1862 and Officer in 1872.
